Bio:
I am a limited licensed psychologist. I practice under the supervision of Dr. Edward Swart (licensed psychologist (Ph.D.)) at Psychological Service with offices in Grand Haven and Muskegon. I completed my graduate studies in 2005 at Western Michigan University, located in Kalamazoo, Michigan where I obtained a M.A. degree in Counseling Psychology. My undergraduate studies were completed at Western Michigan University in 1986 where I obtained a B.S. Degree in Criminal Justice. In addition to the above credentials, I am certified by the State of Michigan as a Substance Abuse Counselor, level II.
I have a plethora of experience in counseling. I have eight years experience in substance abuse counseling. Currently, I am the Clinical Director at West Michigan Therapy. I have served in a supervisory position for the past seven years at this agency. I have over twelve years experience counseling juveniles in various institutions. I have provided private service for area school districts for the past six years for counseling issues. Many of the local human resource agencies have contacted me to provide services and evaluations for their clients. In addition to the above experiences, I am on the faculty at Baker College where I teach general psychology courses.
I have extensive training in various areas. I have a considerable amount of training in cognitive behavior therapy, psychotherapy, and advanced clinical supervision training. I have a vast amount of knowledge and experience in working with individuals with various disabilities; cognitive disorders, oppositional defiance, and conduct disorders.
My practice is broad based. I counsel clients of various ages and with different types of disorders. I enjoy working with children but am just as effective with adults. I provide psychological testing to aid in diagnoses of individuals with ADD, ADHD, learning disabilities, cognitive and emotional impairments. I have worked with individuals who suffer from mental health disorders such as depression, bi-polar, sexual dysfunction, substance abuse/dependency, intermittent explosive disorders, and generalized anxiety disorder, just to name a few.
While the practice of psychology is expansive, I am comfortable working with individuals with various disorders. My education and training is an on-going process. My spectrum for services continues to expand.
