John Heyns is licensed as a Masters level Social Worker. He has over 29
years of experience as a social worker and counselor. He received his

Masters Degree in counseling from George Washington University. John formerly worked

John has clinical experience and expertise in both behavioral/mental
health counseling and substance abuse treatment; primarily with adults. His
specialties include disorders of mood (depression, bipolar, anxiety/panic, &
obsessive-compulsive disorders); and marital/relationship counseling; and the combination of
substance abuse & mental health problems. He offers a mix of individual,
marital and family counseling.
Treatment orientation:
In his role as a counselor, John will first try to accurately and
properly assess the nature of your presenting issues. Then he will engage you in the
appropriate treatment modality that addresses your unique issues. For those clients
who have endured hardships and heartbreaks, his role will be to assist you to
cope, to heal, and to recover. Some clients may require assistance with tough
problem-solving, decision-making, and behavioral changes. Still other
clients will benefit from cognitive therapy to correct flawed thinking patterns
(such as self-esteem, self-confidence, and self-blame problems.) And for those
who suffer from disorders of mood, he will provide assistance regarding the
option of medication trials, in addition to self-help activities.
Insurances Accepted:
He is on the provider panel for Priority Health, Blue Care Network, PPOM,
ASR/Physician's Care, Value Options, and some of the BC/BS plans.
